There’s nothing like summer: traveling, parties, adventures and fun. But when it comes to summer excitement, no one wants to pack on lbs after they've worked their butts off all winter and spring long.
The good news is you don't have to spend your whole summer cooped up in a gym to avoid weight gain. Just follow these two rules and you will stay in shape this summer, without having to live in the gym.
During the summer, it can be difficult to schedule a gym session when there is so much going on. Rather than insisting on getting your workout in at the gym, why not get creative? If you've already trained a lot before summer, you just need to maintain! The beautiful thing is you don’t have to do much to maintain your fitness.
When you're strapped for time or you're traveling and don't have access to a full-blown gym, go for a quick jog or do a quick bodyweight circuit...Here’s a simple example:

What good is summer if you can't get outside and explore? If you live near or are visiting a place close to a body of water, check out the water sport options. Kayaking, for example, is an awesome activity if you want to break a sweat outdoors. You’ll get a great upper-body workout while gazing at all the beautiful sites. And it’s a hell of a lot more fun than a bootcamp class!
If you live near mountains or are visiting somewhere with a lot of trails, go for a hike or two. Hiking is an awesome workout for your calves, hamstrings, and quads so it can serve as your unofficial “leg day.” You’ll take in the sweeping views while unknowingly burning a ton of calories.
Some other good choices: rock climbing, scuba diving, beach volleyball.
There you have it! Two simple rules and a lot of possibility for your workouts this summer. The most important thing to remember is that doing something is better than nothing.
