Team Cellucor Athlete Brooke Wells is gearing up for the CrossFit Games on August 3rd-6th. We wanted to get the scoop on how she is fueling her body as she prepares to compete. Here's what she had to say...
How are fueling your body in the weeks leading up to competition?
Well of course nutrition is a huge part of training and being ready to hit the gym hard day by day. So I am eating a lot of food! I am getting food catered to me from Paleo Power Meals
, which helps me stay on track since meal prep is crucial! Currently, I am eating around 2500 calories a day. And when it comes to supplements, I am strict on taking my fish oil in the morning, aminos throughout the day, and protein shake post-workout
What’s the most important thing for you to eat over the next few weeks?
Carbs! So many carbs!
Do you eat during competition? If so, what do you eat?
Yes, I love to eat during competitions. In-between events I just do a protein shake and banana, maybe some rice. For meals I will eat chicken, rice and sweet potatoes.
What supplements are helping you with your training for the games?
Aminos, fish oil, protein shakes, and the casein protein every night!
What are your meals the night before competition and morning of?
The night before, I eat a lot of food! I eat a ton of fat to help slowly digest the high amount of carbs I eat. I load up on food at night so that if I can't eat much during the competition, I will already have that fuel stored. I eat a huge breakfast too! Typically eggs, fruit & a lot of oatmeal.
Do you have a big cheat meal after the games?
Oh absolutely! In previous years, I've had In-N-Out, pizza, ice cream, doughnuts...
How do you make sure your diet is on point while training for competition?
I make sure I hit my macros every day! I have a company that helps me meal prep so I can use all my focus towards training! Makes life much easier. Meals are always prepped!
What's on your current grocery list?
Right now, these are my go-to items:
- Eggs (dozen)
- Egg white (small carton)
- 2, 12oz Raw broccoli florets
- 12oz Broccoli slaw
- Family size Spinach
- 6 Red bell peppers
- 6 Bananas
- 6 Honeycrisp Apples
- Oatmeal (plain)
- 2lbs Deli sliced chicken breast meat
- 6 Sweet potatoes
- White Rice
- 6 Chicken breast
- Dijon mustard
- Peanut Butter (6 Justin’s packets if you don’t want to get a whole container)
- 5 Avocado
- Pico de Gallo or any fresh salsa
ABOUT BROOKE WELLS
A two-time individual CrossFit Games athlete, Brooke Wells won the 2015 Central Regional at age 19 in her first appearance. A year later, she took third in her region, but vaulted to the top of the Games with six top-five finishes and one event win.
A senior at the University of Missouri, Wells is on track to graduate with a degree in business and plans to continue competing in CrossFit in the future.
